Ambassador Iwama’s Official Visit to Kosovo(April 14–18, 2025)

From April 14 to 18, 2025, His Excellency Mr. Kiminori Iwama, Ambassador of Japan to Kosovo, undertook an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo, further affirming Japan’s commitment to fostering strong and friendly bilateral relations.

During the visit, Ambassador Iwama held a courtesy meeting with the President of Kosovo, H.E. Ms. Vjosa Osmani, on April 15. on April 17, he met with the Mayor of Pristina, Mr. Përparim Rama. In addition, he engaged in thoughtful exchanges with rectors of local universities and the president of Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Japanese-Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, reaffirming the shared interest in deepening cooperation in education, business, and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Iwama’s itinerary included visits to key sites symbolizing the fruitful collaboration between Japan and Kosovo. In North Mitrovica, he toured the Shiitake Mushroom production facility operated as a joint venture with Japanese partners. In Prizren, he visited the national broadcasting station - RTK, constructed with Japanese assistance—an emblem of Japan’s support for media development in Kosovo. He concluded his regional tour in Peja with a visit to the National Judo Center, where he met with the Chairman of the Kosovo Judo Federation, reflecting Japan’s longstanding cultural and sporting ties with the country.

To mark the conclusion of his visit, Ambassador Iwama hosted a reception in Pristina on April 17, celebrating the handover of duties by the outgoing Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Japan in Kosovo. The reception was graced by the presence of distinguished guests from across public, private, and cultural sectors, including H.E. Prime Minister Mr. Albin Kurti and Mayor of Pristina Mr.Përparim Rama. Guests were invited to enjoy a curated experience of Japanese culinary culture, featuring sushi, sake, and Japanese whiskey, while also gaining insight into the upcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Ambassador Iwama’s visit served as a meaningful step forward in strengthening the enduring friendship between Japan and Kosovo.
